During the Garden Festival of Wales

The Garden Festival lasted a total of 6 months. The site opened officially to the public on Friday 1st May 1992 and ended on Friday 4th October 1992. Many events took place during the duration of the 6 months.

The last British Garden Festival attracted over 2 million people to Ebbw Vale to see the beautiful landscapes, sculptures and what the town had to offer.

"This...is a reminder of Britain's biggest, brightest and best ever garden party - Garden Festival Wales. The fifth National Garden Festival and the UK's premier event in 1992, drawing on the uniqueness of the Welsh language, heritage and culture. It is also the first British Garden Festival to select a different Festival flower for each month of the Festival, all displayed within the Festival Flower Garden. Ebbw Vale's dramatic valley setting in South Wales has become a beautiful tapestry of colour created by the planting of 330,000 trees and shrubs, 550,000 plants and lowers and 150,000 bulbs. The festival site is 1 3/4 miles long rising to 1,200 feet above sea level at the top of the mountain railway! During the five months of the Festival two million visitors will join in this glorious celebration of the change from wasteland to blossoming landscape, with a dazzling kaleidoscope of special events and attractions. Fun and beauty beyond measure!" - Back of a Souvenir ruler
